The Dieter and Erika Schumburg Foundation calls for applications for a scholarship to an outstanding (prospective) MSE graduate. The scholarship supports the pursuit of a doctoral degree in economics at the School of Business, Economics and Society (WiSo) at the FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg.

– Scholarship amount: €1.500 per month
– Maximum duration: 24 months

The Schumburg scholarship can be combined with a research and teaching assistant position at one of the WiSo economics chairs (subject to availability and part-time, maximum 20 hours per week). The scholarship will start at the earliest possible date, but not before February 1, 2023.

Applicants should demonstrate high motivation, be interested in pursuing a doctoral degree in economics, and have a track record of good or very good academic achievement as a student of the study program Master of Science in Economics (MSE) at FAU. We invite applications from recent FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg graduates of the MSE program as well as from advanced MSE students who are likely to graduate by March 31, 2023.

Applications should be sent to Professor Dr Johannes Rincke, johannes.rincke@fau.de, no later than
November 15, 2022. To be considered, applicants should hand in the following documents:

  • CV
  • Transcript of records
  • Brief outline of a possible dissertation project (one page)
  • Reference letter from a supervising professor

The professors of economics will propose one applicant for funding. The final decision is made by the board of the Dieter and Erika Schumburg Foundation. FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg established the Dieter and Erika Schumburg Foundation in November 2009. One purpose of the foundation is to grant scholarships to excellent graduates of the Master of Science in Economics at FAU.  Interested students or graduates are advised to contact Professor Rincke, johannes.rincke@fau.de for further questions, or get in touch with a possible supervisor of their choice.
